General Need an idea to catalog 30,000 beermats

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me out.

I collect beermats/coasters as a hobby and have so far collected 30,000 beermats from about 40 different countries.

I would like to create a website and use a web template to try to show/catalog my collect. I have 0 knowledge in making websites

I want to be able to upload scan images of the front and back of each beermat and catalog them according to the drink company who is advertising on them.

Any advice on prehaps a template i could use to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated

I would use a template with anything regarding alcohol lol. Search google on free website builders and you can probably use your own template or images.

 

firstly take your time dont rush into something that your not happy with like KHOLMES164 says have a scan through google for free website templates there are some good alcohol related ones if you scan through the rubbish. also for people that would not generally be intrested in that sort of thing make sure it stands out and drawers people in so big colours and really make it stand out maybe put on there a game of pears where you have to match up the front with the back just to add a bit of fun into it as just looking through the mats may not get massive numbers looking at your site and again just take your time with it let us know how you get on

 

The basic steps:

You will need a webhost. There is several out there. probaly thousands. example: justHost

Choose a URL, that is the link to the website. for example Free Website Templates

Ok, so now I have a host, and a Domain(url), what more?

now you need to build the website. Justhost have several free website builders for and easy build.

Or, you could use something like WordPress or Joomla to make you site look nice!

to upload files to your root/webhost, use a FTP aka File Transfer Protocol. Like Filezilla, drag and drop

Have you already collected any data, e.g. scan images and keywords for each beermat ? Because that is going to change your workflow.
If you have not, I would ask myself the question if this is a good idea.
I would only catalog the very rare items and display some examples, because catalogging them all is going to take you atleast 1000 hours(1 side per minute).

 

Use categories to sort by country or region. Be sure you work out exactly what you want before you start to upload all that data. Nothing worse than doing all that data entry than deciding you would like something different.
