    Hey all
    I have a forum on my site and I am to poor to get a pro script boho

    Anyway the one I am using is called YaBB

    It works very well but when viewing a thread it shows the newest post first so its like reading backwards. Does anyone know of a setting in YaBB to change the order so it would be like this forum starting at the beginning of the thread so you can read in order?

    Thanks In advance:)

    Have you fixed this yet?

    Im not familiar with Yabb more familiar with smf its my favourite one to run and use, but has been a while since ran a forum.

    But here is the link to the yabb site, they may be able to help on the forum there

    Free Forum Software - Yet another Bulletin Board (YaBB) - Open Source, Perl

    also there is a pdf manual that can be downloaded

    I googled yabb manual and it came up as the top link

    here is the link to the google page I got

    yabb manual - Google Search=

    hope this helps.

    Or ignore if you have this fixed

    I'm going to install smf forum on my website, As I like the way it runs, the addons it has and it also has a very helpful community aswell.
    Also can edit the template in the css to my colour choice, which I find much easier then adding a new template as get what I want. I have a feeling that yabb and smf are slightly similar.

    Once installed hopefully tomorrow or day after will have a look in there to see where you can alter the posts around, As offhand just cant remember which section of the forum control panel it would be, has been a while since had a paysite as a website. When or if I find it then will let you know

    Hope this helps

    Im looking through my forum now as my host has installed it for me ( it wouldnt install for me at all think its kasperskey not liking somethings, but just havent linked it to site yet as going to edit the colours on it etc and get boards sorted.

    Am looking for the solution to re-order the posts for you that you asked about, its there somewhere just need to remember where lol.

    The forum am using is smf 1.1.10 thats the latest version.

    smf 2.0 is still not at full public release yet, they are on a release candidate at the moment.

    They have loads of themes and mods for smf on there site, also a really helpful community aswell.

    Mine at the moment is the very basic version, havent added a new theme or boards or changed anything as such apart from the registration proccess etc.

    Still need to tweak my website yet lol so all get done over next few days.

    Here is a link to the forum,

    Login

    here is a link to the site it comes from

    Home of SMF: Free PHP and MySQL forum software

    if you use cpanel as a control panel and it has fantastico you should be able to get smf installed through that, but if not you can download it from smf and its free so are all the themes and addons etc.

    I much prefer it to the others but that is my personal choice once mine is linked hope it gets some use lol.

    Onto changing message order in your boards

    Ok this might work for you

    on smf forum it goes this way
    you should have a similar way to do this on your forum.

    click on your name and get your personal cp up (not the admin cp)
    go to look and layout preferences
    and make sure there is NO tick in Show most recent posts at the top.

    That might be what you have to do to correct it on your forum or something similar. But its something that will have to be done for all members, as an administrator you should have the nessessary permissions to do that. I would certainly have messages shown the same way for all members if at all possible as it is then easier for everyone.

    Hope this has helped if not am not sure what else to suggest.

    Hi mimoun thanks I cant find it in the main admin centre on my forum but can find it in the personal cp.

    Think its a case of where in the admin centre.

    Thanks

    Here is the exact place in the admin center to change the posting order in YaBB.

    -> Admin Center
    -> Forum Settings (first link top left)
    -> Posting tab ( Tab between General and Members at the top)
    -> Topic Summary Cutter ( scroll down 3rd header)
    -> "Reverse Topic Summaries in Topic, so that latest post is at top? (Default order! See next checkbox ...)" next to it.

    I agree SMF is better than YaBB, especially when you compare it to SMF 2.
    SMF 2 is almost ready as they have a second release candidate already.

    I can’t find the option on the admin side in SMF 1, but they did a new option to SMF 2 to do this.

    Ones the final release is ready you can upgrade and change it this way:

    -> Administration Center
    -> Configuration
    -> Themes and layout
    -> Member options
    -> Configure guest and new user options for this theme
    -> Show most recent posts at the top

    I much prefer it minoum to the others, and smf 2 runs great on smfs own site aswell,

    I normally have smf wrapped in mkportal, but there is a security risk with mk at the moment, so might install tiny portal not sure, but also dont think that tiny portal works with smf 2 so will hold on for now untill I know it does.

    You had better read this and look at Mkportal website.

    Thanks for that Ishkey, its a shame as mk is a really good portal.

    Will see if tp is going to support version 2 of smf and if so will put that on my forum, aslong as can wrap the forum in it which should be able to do.
