General Total Newbie--how do I edit templates? Do I need special software?

Do you need to have special software to be able to edit text? I am a complete newbie! I am trying to revamp my Mom's groups website and downloaded the Charity Trust template, but can't change the text...help

 

I think I may be in over my head. I was reading other posts and see I need to have some sort of FTP program. I downloaded one, but dont' know how to use it. I will need to do some reading up.

 

you can just use notepad to edit your templates. FTP is to upload the templates for your server

 

Thanks! Dumb question, but how do I do that?

 

go into your template directory and then right click on the style sheet and/or index file and select notpad
