Hey everyone! I had my website reviewed here before, and I got some awesome tips. I've made a lot of changes and added a lot of new things. Now I'm just trying to work on making my website searchable. I'm using freewebs... and they have a section where you can put down tags for your website... I've done this. I've submitted my website to directories, including google. But just can't seem to get a decent amount of traffic without constantly having to promote my own website, which I do by going to forums and giving relationship advice and including a link to my website.

I've made a squidoo page here to try and get more traffic: http://www.squidoo.com/pleasewebegyou

I've made a promotional video on youtube (you can see it on the squidoo page), which is getting views but people aren't clicking the url to the right of the video.

I've submitted my site to StumbleUpon (I got over 300 hits the first day, and then almost no hits after from stumblers).

What else can I do to promote my website? Am I tagging my website wrong?

    Here is my website: http://www.freewebs.com/pleasewebegyou

You should decide what keywords are the most important for you and insert them into your web page. Learn more about onpage optimisation. It'll be helpful for you and you can also excghange links with relevant sites if there are any.

You did everything right. Now you should define the most relevant keywords and start the optimization according to them. Before defining the keywords, make a small research and define your main competitors.

There are two main strategies in optimizing a site. 1- optimization according to the small amount of popular/frequent keywords. 2- optimization according to the big amount of not so popular/frequent keywords. Most SEO professional use both these strategies on practice.

If the competition is too high, start optimizing your site to not so frequent queries.

I understand you're on a budget and that's why you went the free web hosting route. But understand that they don't get as great search engine rankings as regular hosting accounts, primarily because you don't own your own domain name.

The best thing you could do to help your website get indexed is get yourself a domain name and insert your keyword into your domain name.

    For example: www.donate.com

Now I'm sure that one's taken, but you get my point.

Second, concentrate on "keyword phrases" opposed to "keywords" on the content of your website. In other words, if one of your keywords is donate that's great. But it's very unlikely someone will only type that word in the search engine box. If they do, you'll probably be indexed about a zillion pages back for that keyword.

Therefore, try to narrow down your competition for that keyword. Use something like donate to college tuition or donate money to help college students pay tuition.

In this way, if someone types in one of those keyword phrases in the search engine, your site will be well indexed for that search string.

If you can, insert these phrases (or words) in title tags, the h1 tag. Just remember though, make sure your site reads for humans and doesn't look like you wrote the page for Googlebot.

Third, don't expect to show up in top rankings very soon. SEO takes time. The age of a website has a lot to do with it, as does the number of websites you compete with.

    Finally,

How in the heck did you get 300 visits to your site the first day on StumbleUpon? You can find me there at: eventurebiz.stumbleupon.com

It is an interesting idea and it is immediately clear what the site is about. I like the banner images too. If I have to be honest, I am not thrilled about the rest of the design. The biggest issue that I have is with your content management. Your home page is way too long and more than half of it is occupied by your donation requests. I have nothing against it but if you want people to pitch in, you will have to give something back. Make your website more informative, prove that it is worth spending time on and people might make a donation or two. Also, try to make these requests a bit more subtle.

I made a lot of changes. I moved all of the donation stuff to it's own page. I'm also thinking of buying a domain name from godaddy.com. Any suggestions?

As far as your page goes, if your ultimate goal is to receive donations, you must put something about it on your homepage. Even if it's just enough to entice someone to click over.

Remember, you need to "market" your website to the right people. Right now everyone and their dog is hurting for money in this economy. Bankruptcy is up, the foreclosure rate is through the roof, and no one has a budget.

Therefore, asking for donations from everyday people is probably not going to turn out too well for you. Concentrate on who you are marketing to.

Here are two of my blog articles you might find insightful:
Blind Marketing Is Risky and Marketing In A Crowded Market

Laser focus your website's content and laser focus who you're marketing to.

Good luck - and don't forget we host websites / domains ;)

I did still leave something on the homepage about donations, it is at the bottom. And I have a link there to entice people to click over and see the "be a donor" page.

As far as marketing my site to the "right" people, I guess I don't know who the "right" people are. My website is focused on long distance relationships. So how would I market that to anyone else, besides those that are in long distance relationships?
