General Heading text using pictures versus optimisation

    The link to the template I am discussing is:

    This template layout looked excellent but on downloading it, I find a lot of the "Headings Text" are pictures (gif etc) does this not significantly reduce the optimisation for the site??
    Is the site additionnally set up with heading text replacing the pictures.

    Is that a no to doesn't affect optimisation or availability of substitute template.
