Hello and thanks for opening this thread up because you want to help!

I'm sort of new to the entire web design thing and I have a few questions.

First off templates for me are simple. I can copy the source code and slap it in dreamweaver and bam, make my changes.

What I want to do is make a website from scratch. So, I did. It consists of colored boxes, with text, and a table for my menu. Looks like crap to me. When I look at some of the templates you guys have and others online, it puts my little web design to shame. :(

I want to get on the right path about building websites. I'm using dreamweaver cs3 and photoshop cs3 for my web building and banner making software. The problem I'm running into is that I don't know much at al about CSS and Javascript. I've figured a few things out with java, but I don't know where to start with the CSS. It seems everyone I know that can build sites always say CSS is the way to go, but I just can't grasp the concept of how it works.

Please give me any information that would be helpful in order for me to build the awesome websites like I see you guys building. Teach me the steps to make a professional web page! :D

ok first, stay away from JS, second, first, design the template it self in PS, including banner, nav, and content boxes. Now hit Ctrl+M abd it will open imageready, and import that into it automatically. now use dreamweaver to slice your template. nav, banner, content and all. and file<save for web. it saves the images in /images and gives you an index.html that there is what you open in DW and then start your coding

You are doing a complex things I guess ,in my opinion you should go for some good software which are code free such TemplateToaster, WordPress Theme Generator and more. Using these softwares your coding process will get eliminated as it automatically generate the source code. So,this is an other way to design your website in HTML/CSS. I have got thid knowledge after reading this write up http://templatetoaster.tumblr.com/post/102255368481/templatetoaster-an-advance-theme-generator

Yes, you do have other options as well for designing websites. You may take a help of web designing software that required less or no coding knowledge. You can use templatetoaster a theme generator, may design themes or templates using this software and install that theme on to the respective CMS. You need not to write the code as it eliminated the coding process because it automatically generates the source code for you. Most importantly, whatever theme or template you designed should be mobile friendly, so you, can easily design mobile friendly themes using this software.

First design for people then make minor changes for SEO.
Example: search for "CPU cooler selection", you will find it on 1st page google. It has not been up long.
On a whim I put it up in tables, since it did better than I thought I need to change it to CSS and add an introduction (to use keywords to increase position) and use CSS sprites for the images or pictures, to load faster. Then improve the keywords.
The idea of a web page or website is to be seen and interacted with (be read then click on something). To be read you need to be close to first page in search engines or advertise in ezines with articles (more about that later - this was designed to be with an article). Getting to 1st page Google is about proper SEO, then getting interaction is about SEM. We (the forum) will be putting up tutorials on how to do it (and it is FREE) plus they have many posts already about how to do that (we probably need an index or search for that). Example: search for "freetutorials" or "free tutorials" and you will see why I stress 1st page Google. We can get you there and you will not find a better web designer than our administrator for any price. Expect better things from our forum.

    Note: http://freetutorials.name/Reference1/CPU Cooler Selection.html
Changed from tables to CSS. Added a header and information under the header to use keywords to increase position.
Will show you how to get good keywords to put in the website header and introduction (also the head and description).
As you change your webpage or website, monitor it to see the improvement. If better continue your changes. Make small changes so you can keep track of the results. Check other similar web pages for keywords and ideas. We will list some of the software needed to improve your SEO.
Have you started your webpage or website yet. You need to have a topic or subject then get a template that you can use to start. This forum has many free templates. You can change templates or modify the one you get. Then we can help you build an outstanding website. Most if not all the moderators are professional website developers in one way or another and the forum will help you. That is why we are the best.

You can create it by using template toaster, also you can also design by using word-press and WPTouch Plugin as well. But recently Google has updated its webpages to show auto responsively. So then many changes in the search rankings has taken place.
