Designing Mom of Memorial web site needs help with updates please!

    • Website URL:
      http://www.vanishedvoices.com

    • Website description:
My web site Vanished Voices is a memorial tribute about the murdered and missing women from the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, Canada. My daughter Angela is one of the victims of serial killer Robert Pickton from Port Coquitlam, BC.

    • The Structure of my website:
I would like a new memorial entry page that is updated in appearance and entices people to come in to Vanished Voices to read about the women. A new directory page that is easier for people to navigate the site and looks attractive for a memorial site. My web pages are old, not sized correctly and don't fit many of the new browsers. The pages are squished to one side or not centered at all. It would be terrific if the pages just looked nice and easy to read.

    • My favorite template designs on Free Website Templates:
I can't seem to locate any memorial web templates. I found this one:
      https://freewebsitetemplates.com/forums/threads/a-memorial-web-template.90/
For the entry page, I like the idea of a single sentence...In Memory of Our Loved Ones...or I Will Always Remember You.

    • Other websites whose design I like:
      http://seanpotts.com/web-design/parkside-memorial-funeral-home/
I like the idea of a single flower for the entry page.

    • Preferred colors:
I'm not really sure what colors I would prefer. It's a memorial and tribute site so no vibrant colors, oranges, pinks, lime greens etc. Peaceful, serene, muted colors. I'm rather tired of the original blue/gray I have for the pages and the weeping woman graphic.

    • Notes:
Back in 2000, I hired a web designer to create the main pages which cost me a considerable amount of money. Since I pay for the domain name and web space each year (13 years or more) has become quite costly. I'm wondering if a donation box to go towards supporting the site would be considered tacky?

    Hello @Aquitaine_Rose,

Thank you for your request. I browsed through your website and it really pains me that your daughter (and many other women) went missing under such circumstances. It is depressing that more has not been done for these precious women. It must have taken a lot of courage on your part to come up with this memorial, and I salute you for that. You're a wonderful mother.

All that said, I think you've provided us with sufficient information to proceed with the request; and no, a donation box is definitely not tacky! Our designers can work their way around tackiness, I'm sure.

Thank you for offering us this opportunity to take on such a meaningful project, and do watch this thread so you'll be updated when this project makes it to the queue (which I'm sure will be very soon). In the meantime, you have our condolences and my prayers over the afflicted families. Shalom.

Hello @Aquitaine_Rose . I hope the FWT designers will take care of your request very soon.

FYI : based on the content of your current website, I think you shouldn't pay more than 60 CAD for both the domain name and the web space.

Thank you so very much Ruthe. I'm so grateful!!! When my daughter vanished in Nov.1998 and nothing was being done about her investigation and many of the other missing women. I bought my 1st computer back then to try and keep up with the media plus I wanted the world to know what was going on in the Downtown Eastside. I didn't have computer skills/knowledge and I had to learn very quickly. My web site is 13 years old, and it looks out-dated and doesn't fit in most new browser's. Your help, suggestions, tips, any advice would be so awesome :)

Midju, I spent $1500.00 back in 2000 for my web site to be created by a web designer, and then each year I pay $60.oo CDN for web hosting plus another $15.00 for the domain name. All in all it does add up.

@Aquitaine_Rose that's a lot of money! I think our designers can do a much better job for free. But I do have to inform you that we won't be able to program your entire website, only provide you with the template design. That means you'll have to transfer the information (text and images) onto the new website design. Will that be okay for you?

We do have a number of tutorials on how this can be done, as well as a very supportive community with super helpful members who will be able to guide you every step of the way, though, so it won't be a big problem as long as you have the patience. :)

Hi Ruthe, that would be awesome and I'm so grateful! Yes, I know how to upload to my site using the control panel. Also like you mentioned you have tutorials too. Thanks ever so much!
I have lots of patience, and yes, that was a lot of money back then for us.

    Hello Roxsan & Hazel

Both designs are very lovely for my web site. I love bits of both. Roxsan I like how you have Always in Our Hearts and Hazel I love the color and flower graphic on your design. I also like " You will Always Be Remembered".

I prefer "Our Stories" for each woman although both are very, very attractive. Hard to decide, both are terrific!

I've been away for a long time and would like to finish what I started. How do I copy the source code for the page I like for my memorial web site?
    Thanks so much!

Do you still need the source code for this?
I can have one of my web developers build this for you?
