You could specify the purpose a bit. Is it for a live program or recording or both? title mentions both.

Few years ago I was played around with fruity loops was quite good with features, customizing, configuring and developing plugins to do various tasks for spinning. I used it for recording.

The main difficulty I always faced was finding good audio samples relevant with the tracks I moded. Had limited resources and acapella versions of tracks were scarce. It also depends what are you capable of, if you have a good voice and can sing makes things a lot easier.

I am also interesting in this topic, but I think that it's the right place for discussing it.

If you need to remix any song then you have need different software. I am not much expert in audio mixing. But i have small experience in Virtual DJ Studio + adobe after effect. We can remix good song with collaboration of different software. I have experienced it that its not difficult work because its interesting and we can become expert within no days.
