    Hello,

I recently set-up a new football club with the aim of getting into a league for the 2012/13 season. Things are going really well but we're having some problems with the badge. We've attempted to knock our own up but we're not really happy with it. Between us, our skills are too limited to take it any further so any help would be greatly appreciated. The club has applied for CASC status (similar to a charity) so money is tight but we would be willing to make a small donation for the right design, if required. And I am of course happy to help out on the site however I can.

    1) What is the exact name you would like in your logo?
The exact text that you want in your logo. Include other details like
positioning, if you need it done in a certain way.

West London Celtic AFC (in the outer circle around the crest).

    2) What is your website address (ex: http:/site .com/; Site Name)?
If the logo is to be displayed on your website, style, colouring and background
blend needs to be taken into consideration.

    www.westlondonceltic.com

It would be resting on a white background at the top of the page.

    3) Description of your website or business:
Another aid for our graphics people in deciding on an appropriate style design.

    Football Club.

    4) Search the Internet for any logos/designs on the web that you feel convey
the style you are looking for?
Either post small images of the logo designs (please keep any posted graphics under 600 x 600 pixels) or the URL of where the image/s can be found.
By supplying this info you are helping our graphics people get an idea of the preferred 'style'
    you are looking for.
upload the graphics and explain what it is about them you like, be as descriptive as you can.
We will not guess as to what is on your mind.

This is the badge we made and are currently using. Wow, it really looks horrible at this resolution! We have had to change our colours to blue and white since this was made. We tried just changing all the green to blue but we decided it didn't look right and then I found this place.

We like the way the claddagh is set in this one. Perhaps something like that with blue (royal) replacing the green.

This is like what we were going for with our design. Could look good in in white/silver and blue. Not sure where we'd put the club name, though.

I like this design. I think the space between the objects (all in white/silver) might make it stand out more on the blue background.

This was the type of thing I had in mind. Claddagh in the middle (white) over the blue background, West London Celtic AFC around the edge in blue.

One of our guys would prefer a shield. I think this could look good with the claddagh (in silver) in the middle, a darker (royal?) blue and white as the background, and the letters WLC AFC at the bottom (although I'm worried that would make it look too busy).

    5) Requested size of your logo:
Basically we ask this to determine the graphics resolution and what it will be eventually used for.
Is the logo to be used solely for the web? (low resolution)
Will it be made into a poster or printed on shirts? (high resolution)

It would need to be a high resolution, if possible. We would be looking to have the badge printed on our kit (which is blue and white hoops).

    6) Do you have any images/photos that can be used for the logo? (must be copyright free)
Finding an appropriate, non-copyrighted graphic is the hardest and most time-consuming part
of putting together logos. If you have a hand drawn sketch of what you want, please feel
free to scan it and post the image.
(please keep any posted graphics under 600 x 600 pixels.)
Don't have your own but you require graphic in your logo, then search and find at least two that reflect what you are visualizing post them or a link and explain what it is about them you like, be as descriptive as you can.

I am stumped here. I'm not sure which (if any) I provided for question 4 is non-copyrighted, but I'm guessing none of them.

    7) What logo styles do you like (text only, image only, text and image, etc.)?
This will help the designers know what type of logo styles you are into and will create your
    logo accordingly.
Text Only - Includes a text only logo which is a logo with just text and some extra effects.
Image only – Includes and image logo with no text (or little text such as initials)
Text and Image – Includes text and images used in your logo. This could be used to either
give a clearer view of what your logo is showing to your audience.

    Text and image.

    8) What colors do you want to see in your logo?
State any main colours that you would like in your logo.

    Blue, White and/or Silver.

    9) What colors do you NOT want to see in your logo?
State any colours that you do not want in your logo.

    10) Describe the target audience for your logo
This will help the designers to create a logo based at your target audience (e.g Kids – Colourful, eye-catching, possibly characters)

    Adult male football fans.

    11) What are the top 3 things you would like to communicate through your logo?
This will help the designer know how to design your logo and to what effect.
(e.g could be targeted to attract new businesses, gamers, newly weds, children,
    builders etc etc)

We just want to attract players for the team.

    12) Where will your logo be used (print, website, etc.)?
This will help the designers know which format to create the logo in. You will not
have to decide yourself as all designers will know. Please note down everything that
your logo will be placed on which includes any future plans.
Failure to do so will result in a bad quality logo.

It will feature on the website and the team's kit.

    13) Do you have other info or links you want to share?
Please feel free to comment on anything else that you would like your logo to have if it has
    not been mentioned above.

    Nope.

    14) Finally we need is there a style font you prefer, please let us know.
For font types you can look here daFont or one of the many Font Websites available.

    Nope.

I have made a crude start on this (in the hope you too will attempt to help around the site etc, website reviews are the best place to start)

I have kept as a outline at mo (will add colour later) so your thought please?

I'll have a play round with your design request over the next few days.
I agree. :) Simple-uncluttered-evenly balanced-and clean lines with easy to read text is always the better way to go.

    Hi Lady S
    It's very rare I beat you at anything....makes a change...hehe

Thanks, starting to get the knack of this (only taken 2 years lol)

Thanks very much for the replies! I'm not really sure about the wings - I don't know if the other lads will like them or if they'll just want a more traditional looking claddagh. I really like the style of the rest of the claddagh itself, though. We don't need a football on the badge anywhere, and I reckon the West London Celtic could go right across the top with AFC at the bottom. Apologies if it sounds like I'm shredding your design here; I really do appreciate the effort.

Oh, I should have also said that the AFC would need to be properly punctuated, so: A.F.C. Sorry! I think we'd be happier with a more classic claddagh (no wings, footballs, etc) to centre the badge. Thanks again for any and all help received.

    Giving Forest a hand here...
altering his original to something like this?

Would it be possible to make the claddagh look a bit more like the one below?

I think something similar to that would look great at the centre of the badge. I like the boarder you've made but I think I'd prefer it without the two black dots.

    Thanks again!

Okay, will try again with a similar version of that graphic.

Is this an improvement? Not sure about which 'shade' of blue you wanted so took a guess.

That is brilliant! Is there any chance you could remove the little cross-like thing from the top of the crown, push the whole claddagh up a little bit, and make the heart a bit bigger? I'd also be interested to see what it looks like without the black outline surrounding everything (could that be replaced with blue, so that the entire badge is blue and white?). I'm sorry if that's a lot to work on, and I don't want to seem ungrateful - you've done an amazing job.

OK, I've shown it to the guys and we have some final requests, if that's all right?

    - Could we have a claddaghe like the one below? It is a good example of a typically classic claddagh, and with the benefit of hindsight, I think it would work better than the spaced out one I linked to. In fact, we really like the knot around the outside as well (we used it in our attempt at a badge) and think a blue and white homage to the below image would be ideal.

    - Could we have a lighter shade of blue? Not majorly lighter, just not quite so Chelsea.
    - Could we see what it would look like with the colours reversed?

I do apologize if this is a lot of work, and totally understand if you don't want to go in a different direction, having already spent time trying to please us.

Failing that: a couple of our guys really like Forest's initial design and have asked to see what it would look like coloured in, with the football and black dots removed. I don't know if that's possible now but thought I'd throw it out there.

Thank you both so much for your effort so far.

I've edited our requests somewhat. Apologies again if we're coming across as difficult to please.

    I love it!

    A couple of small things:

    - Could we lose the little white dots (jewels?) at the bottom of the crown? They can just be filled in, I reckon.

    - Could you make it so that there's a consistent gap between everything? I don't know if it's the hands that are too big (I know I asked you to make them bigger before), or the heart, or the crown. I'd just like a bit more space between the hands and crown without moving the crown any further away from the heart. I think it's the hands, actually.

    - Do you think it would be possible to have the heart be blue and white hoops? So a blue outline and then blue and white hoops (horizontal bars) inside. I'm just thinking it might look a bit better that way - and we play in blue and white hoops.

Thank you so much, CovertPea; I think we've found our badge.

Hi again, CovertPea. Sorry to be a pain but I thought I'd just check how you were getting on with the badge. What do you think of the changes we suggested, etc? Sorry if it's a lot of work. We have to submit the badge to be printed on our kits soon so I thought I better ask before we run out of time.
