iam looking at getting a new laptop and computer.
the laptop will be for normal use like net, making cds etc.
and the computer would be for net and playing football manager.

anyone know where the best place to get a good deal on them,
and if you know what good ram etc is please let me know as i dont know much about that, want the laptop to run fast and the computer to run my game without slowing it down.

    thanks

If you get a powerful laptop, you should be able to play games on it. Meaning you wouldnt need a desktop. (just a suggestion :))

If the laptop is just for the net, consider a netbook. They start at around £150 or so, and will probably be of a better value to you if the internet is all you need it for. No point spending £300+ on a laptop that can do pretty much the same thing with maybe a few extra's that you do not need. I have used a Dell Inspiron Mini and they are quite nice. If you need to make CD's then you can always get an external CD/DVD drive for ~£20.

For the desktop - Would you be wanting to buy one pre-assembled or purchase the components separately and build it yourself?

Also, which Football Manager? The specs are going to be different for each one. For 2011, these are the minimum specs according to wikipedia:

    • PC:
      • Windows XP or later
      • Processor: XP : 1.4GHz or Faster, Vista/W7 : 2.0GHz or Faster
      • 512MB RAM (XP), 1.0GB RAM (Vista/W7)
      • Graphics: 128MB Supported Chipsets - Nvidia FX 5900 Ultra or greater; ATI Radeon 9800 or greater; Intel 82915G/82910GL or greater. Earlier cards may only display 2D Match Viewer Mode and are not supported
      • DirectX 9.0c
      • Hard Drive: 2GB
      • Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible
Doesn't need much. I don't know where you're from, but I'd imagine you could grab one from PC world for about £300 then just upgrade it's graphics card.

    Just for example:
    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/desktop-pcs/706_7021_70021_xx_BA00002520-BV00149650/xx-criteria.html

    Plus a graphics card:
An ATI 5570 would probably do (XFX ATI Radeon HD 5570 1024MB DDR2 PCI-Express Graphics Card [])

You could probably get an even cheaper one, the graphics card FM:2011 requires is ancient - I could only find a few hits for it on ebay and it's so much of a relic that it's not much cheaper than the 5570.

That's about £300 for the PC but you'd have to install the graphics card yourself (which is one of the easiest things to do in the world).

Hopefully that helps. If you're not from the UK (I don't know if anywhere else has PC World :x) just look at whatever PC retailer you have in your country and try to match the specs with the ones on the PC world link. I don't mind going into more detail if you want it, or I can go through separate components if you're planning to custom build.

I'm a bit of a technophobe myself but I found that Dell were very helpful when I bought the Laptop that I use now. Not the cheapest but very good advice and aftersales service.
