    Hi all,

I am currently looking into setting up a new site and was wondering if any of you had any experiences with any portal softwares ?
What is the best performing portal software?

    Drupal or Joomla! ?

I am looking to create a 6-10 paged portal with an A-Z on 3 of them

I have a domain and hosting with "godaddy" but the hosting is for a month only at the moment as i really want to get some info before i set up properly,

I have had some experience with forums and blogs and very small websites but tbh i have never dealt with portals, so how does it all work, is more website based or forum based?

My coding skills are ZERO !!

    Cheers,

    Brett.

The best? won't answer that one. I've experimented with both, I thought Joomla was a little easier. Any of them can be complicated, overwhelming, confusing, pick a word, if one doesn't have some experience.

I used go daddy for a host provider from 2006 to 2008, at that time it could be complicated for the beginner. I've heard they changed things around since then. There's help desks, supports groups and forums to visit for questions and help.

I understand these as CMS, content management system, Wordpress is another option. Which ever you decide to pick, I would go with your one click install, follow instructions and ask questions as you move along if need be.

I can't answer which one is the best either but both probably will serve you well since they are mature and robust system. However, there will be learning curve as both are somewhat complex. You might get the help you need to get started since they both have forums where members help each other out.

Portals are no different than the small websites you have built. Perhaps what you have in mind are websites that capable of handling large among of data and able to server number of users all at once without getting overload. So what you are looking for is a system that will provide that.

Perhaps I used the wrong words. You are correct in saying they are both complex. If it makes any sense, what I found with Drupal is it required more resources then I was willing to give up where Joomla did not.

    Explore your options and enjoy!
