Hi again folks, i am wondering how people in their professions take it when criticized.

What i mean to say is for example, the work you guys do here all looks wonderful to me but do you get people that after you spending alot of your time on a project for the client to turn around and say i don't like it one bit?

Do you get offended? or do you take it with a pinch of salt and redo the works?

In whatever profession it may be.

I'l start, one thing i notice alot in my field (decorations and refurbishment) that the client more often than not, doesn't really pay that much attention to the works that went in to it looking like it does, they seem to be more interested in how clean you have left the premises afterwards than the actual work.

I work both for my Father, who owns an IT business, and for PC World as a TechGuy or whatever they call it, to be honest it's so boring I just phase out (Although I'm quitting soon as they changed my schedule and it collides with college :x).

I once got criticised by a customer about the state of the inside of their PC after building it for them. Aparently it wasn't neat enough -.- Not that they were trying to do anything to it, they lost something and decided to search INSIDE their PC O_O It was pretty tidy too, I clipped the spare cables out of the way and used one of those long clippy things to keep the used wires grouped. So I coiled the unused ones and hid them in small gap behind the PSU. Waste of 5 minutes >.>

That's about it, I can't say I really do much to be criticised for, when you're just messing with computers it either works or it doesnt, really. I guess one guy did complain that his laptop was still too slow after I replaced it's RAM, but hey, don't try running Vista on an ancient laptop with a max capacity of 256mb of RAM.

This is an interesting point for me Peterpoose. A software developer (rather than a web designer) is supposed to work to an agreed specificiation. You can do this with the functionality of a web site - but not the look. How do web designers charge for their services when trying to produce something so subjective?

That's reassuring, ishkey! Are any impossible to please? And how do you get them to pay if they are?

I used to get offended about being criticized, but I’ve learned never to get offended about criticism (as far as humanly possible). I now use it as a tool to improve my work and making sure to avoid the same criticism in the future. I would even go as far as asking a client for criticism if I don't get any.
