Hi, I would like to know your opinion about my website.
    http://www.vareside.com/
Please rate only the German and English pages because the French one needs to be refurbished.

    Great colors and cool header!
And here are some thoughts how you could make your site even better.
It’s just my opinion so it’s up to you if you wish to follow my advice or not.
I believe a website should be self explanatory so every visitor could perceive the main idea of the site as soon as he/she enters it. So I advice you to place a small text passage telling about your website on the main page instead of placing it on the homepage.

    Hi there,

Actually, when I entered your site, it didn't give me a clue what it was about. I felt confused because I did not know where to go and what link to follow.

Yeah, it's really difficult to comprehend what this site is about without an effective and eye-catching TITLE.

Also you should add HTML Title and Meta Description to make your site SEO friendly.

And finally, I reckon that your color scheme doesn't match well the theme/topic. It's an entertainment portal but the design seems a bit dull for me.
    Sorry to say that.

Don't wish to be the 'fly in the ointment' here but even though I see you've attempted to remedy the problem, McAfee SiteAdvisor still shows a red alert for your site saying it's linked to zangocash.com
Don't know about regular visitors but that's kind of enough to keep me from looking any further.

Do not go away! Take a few minutes and discover this website.

It made me think - Yep maybe I should Leave. It's a subliminal thing, You put the thought in my head LEAVE.
I love the clock, where did you get it from.
For my eyes I could use the Navigation a tad larger, you have the space.
Your pages load slow. Check your php.ini file to see if you can speed things up. Servers use a master php.ini file for all directories without a php.ini file in it. You will have a copy of this file in your public_html directory, and you can make any changes to this file, and they will take precedence over the master file. You will need to copy this file into all subdirectories within your site which have php files that you would like to affect.
You can also use this to have a different environment for different folders. So, if you want to run two scripts which have different requirements, you can put them in two different folders and then put different php.ini files in each of those folders.

Most servers have object code caching packages available like Zend or Ioncube, make sure you use one.
Each time a request comes to your server for a php script, it has to go through the compiler and then execute the object code. If this is cached, the 1st step is skipped and you end up with a faster and more responsive script.
Other than that I like it. You put lots of work into it.

    hi

felt there were quite a lot of empty spaces on the home page...content could be little more evenly distributed...

the gradients and the banner is good
the clock and the time is excellant
the + beside the navagation could be replaced with something else(maybe the red and blue box you put in the banner) since it could be confused as submenus
i liked the tiny icons for the author, date and price...

    good day!

I didn't specify any doctype, because that's what's easier about HTML5. You do not need to do this anymore.

Your background is very nice. The problem is it is hard to navigate and it looks rather empty

when the home page flashed up... it left me confused.... i thought the page hadn't loaded fully... this left me with the urge to leave the site... however if you could rerig the layout and make people aware of the use of your site i think it would be really cool... you seem to have alot of good ideas and even tho i didn't understand what the site was for at first... it still had the WooooW!! effect :)

    good work

So, as you may have noticed, I've recently made quite a few changes to the website. I simplified the Welcoming-text that tells the user what this website is about. Further, I'm soon introducing some quite nice features to make this website even better.

By the way, it might look a bit empty. The thing is, I wanted to make a drastic change from crowded content-boxes like on Netvibes, Pageflakes and iGoogle to some more design and relaxing sort of startpage for your daily browsing experience. I understand that when you first visit the website, it might be a bit difficult to know exactly what you should do there or where to click but I'm constantly working on how to make it better.

@DavyG: Thank you for your comment. Indeed, the wooooow-effect is what I want to achieve as this might keep the interest and focus on the website and it might make the user more excited about to find on this site. I think with the improved welcoming-text, it'll be clarified on what this site is actually online for.

In the future (when I have even more widgets and add-ons for the site), I'm also working on creating a little video-tutorial or even a little video-advert that I'm going to upload to Vimeo and Youtube. We'll see how it works out. Anyway, thank you all for your comments on my website by now. I've read every single on of them and I'm trying to improve the website in all ways. Thank you again. If there is anything else, you all want me to change/add/remove, just tell me.

Like the site. Very nice and easy to use. Only thing I would change is maybe giving the option of having the clock and the options you choose go vertical or horizontal. Would like to see more of the picture in the background. Awesome job............

@RebelsPink: Thank you very much. Of course, you can use it as your permanent startpage if you want. :) I'm working out a way to add multiple layout options such as vertical bar, horizontal bar, align of custom uploaded image, ... and even more things to choose from. I think Vareside.com can become a serious alternative to netvibes.com, myfav.es, pageflakes.com ...
