Here's some useful tips to think about when designing your next website:

    - people scan web pages in an F pattern. They look at the top first, then down the left side, and then in where the content is (or should be).

    - when designing your sales website, tell your visitors what your USP is (Unique Selling Proposition). What are you selling or giving them and how is it better or unique compared to other similar products or services?

    - Answer these five things for your site's visitor as fast as possible:
    Why This?
    Why Here?
    Why You?
    Why Now?
    What's in it for me?

    - When trying to convince someone to buy something, appeal to their emotion. Sell benefits, not features. Sell the sizzle, not the steak.

    - If possible, give them a quick story. "I use this tool every time I work on my car. The other day (this and this happened and the tool did this to fix it).

    - Headlines that work well for selling:- Keep your website somewhat simple. A confused mind always says no.

    - Laser focus your niche website. Give your site's visitors EXACTLY what they are looking for.

    - Make your website sticky. Give out a lot of info for free. EVERYONE likes free. I own a web hosting company and EVERYONE wants free web hosting. I refuse because I don't like it and I don't think it's good for people. Why? Read my blog. There's an article I wrote about it.

    - Keep your website updated. Our friend Googlebot LOVES websites that keep revitalizing themselves with new content.

    - Tap into social media marketing. Don't know what that is? Read my blog ;)

    - If you're using Google AdWords, create 3 or 4 different landing pages for your targeted keyword. Each of those pages should be laser focused on that keyword. That keyword is what your customer is looking for.

    - And finally, post in my forum if you'd like any other ideas or suggestions :)

Good luck. And if anyone has something to share or want to tell us about any of their experiences in designing websites, please Post Reply. I'd love to hear them.

I completely agree with your words, John.

I always recall the words of of Steve Krug: 'Don't make me think!' In other words, the design should be simple as possible, and all the common design elements should be on their expected places. So, a web designer should aspire to create a design the users are accustomed to...

My problem is sometime, Linx, that I get too wordy. My wife reads my blog posts or content on my website all the time and tells me to shorten it. I guess I always try to give too much information which can lose people's attention - so I have to be careful.

I'm doing a remix of my homepage's content soon, so keep an eye out and let me know what you think.

@emiypal - thanks. That's nice to hear and I have a whole list of topics to write about.

    *john's under pressure now* hehehe

@shoppingair - you're welcome. Blogs and forums are good for me because they give me a chance to unload some of the information bottled up in my head and make others suffer my pain ;)
