Hi folks, i hope i am at the correct place. If not i am sorry.

I am after some ideas from budding designers for my small business which i just started. Basically looking for a logo for items of clothing, van signage and letterheads etc.

Im not computer minded at all so would love to see some ideas and maybe some help.

If i am in the correct place i can post the details in this thread.

    Many Thanks, Peter

Sounds interesting Peter. Several years ago I started a brick and mortar biz, closed it down 2 years ago due to the economic climate. Curious what kind of start up capital are we talking about these days.

Hey Ishkey, yep there was some tough times. The larger companies that i deal with i dont see to get any problems regarding work as they all have a budget they must spend to redo offices and such. I guess also for tax reasons they spend all the time and to be honest it comes across to me as throwing money, but i dont mind hehe

The last company i did work for was Trainline and LOCOG(Olympic Stadium). Just to give you an idea, they spent over £100,000 on works on the offices they rented in prime central london for people to answer the phone for tickets. Do they really need to waste tax payers money having offices like that, they could have used much cheaper premises. The works i carried out will be put back to how it was before all this work was done in 6 months time to hand it back to the landlord. As i said throwing money but its good for business i guess.

I didnt need alot of capital really, started with just £5000,00 for wages for people and materials and a small van. About to get delivery of a brand new van next week and also want that sign written with the logo i hopefully get some ideas for.

Anyhows sorry if i am just ranting on hehe.

Will fill out the form and post it on here, when i get a chance as the kids are running about like headless chickens.

    1) What is the exact name you would like in your logo?

    The London Decorating Company ltd

    2) What is your website address - I haven't got a web page at the moment but i did buy a domain name at which i will hopefully try and get done from ideas/templates etc that you guys could possibly help me with. The domain name i have purchased is - www.thelondondecoratingcompanyltd.co.uk

    3) Description of your website or business:

We are a small crowd of young-ish people that take pride in doing quality decoration works. We mainly do projects for the larger companies and commercial works. Some of the companies we do projects for are Apple, Fujitsu, Siemens, Regus plus many others.

    4) Have you found any logos/designs on the web that you feel convey
the style you are looking for?

Ok i really dont have many ideas for this, my brother made up one that i will attach. Im looking for a logo that is modern, simple, funky, clear yet professional looking. At the moment its a blank canvas really, im really not after something cheesy on the lines of pots of paint, rollers houses, buildings, roofs etc.

    5) Requested size of your logo:

Ok i will be hopefully using this logo for - A brand new large van that's metallic silver, a web site for products portfolio pictures of works previously done(would like a very simplistic web page, that's modern and funky possibly), T-shirts, trousers, Bib and brace, caps and jackets(each employee will receive a set for turning up at work and another set to change into for work) Presentable cloths in (black with maybe silver writing?) and the work clothes in (White, not sure what colour would go well with keeping with the van and such?) wamt them all to look clean and proffesional but young and modern.

    6) Do you have any images/photos that can be used for the logo?

Only one really that my brother did pretty quickly its not ideal really but its simplistic and modern i think?

    7) What logo styles do you like (text only, image only, text and image, etc.)?

I would like a logo plus the full text of the company name but clear, modern, classy and noticeable.

    8) What colors do you want to see in your logo?

As i mentioned above its pretty much a blank canvas but the new Van is Silver metallic so something that's nicely visible against that colour, i thought about black as well for the employees to go to work with and white for obvious reasons for the paintworks. Other than that if you guys have better ideas im totally open.

    9) What colors do you NOT want to see in your logo?

I guess any colours that work together and keeping with the modern funky theme but still professional looking for the type of clientèle we work for. I wouldnt want anything over the top, too bright and childish looking.

    10) Describe the target audience for your logo -

Up market clientèle, large corporations and private expensive houses. We recently did the Gettys house in the Kings Road.

    11) What are the top 3 things you would like to communicate through your logo?

Clean, professional, trustworthy as we deal with alot of areas that are extremely high risk like designers working on the new apple phone and other important projects taken on by these large companies.

    12) Where will your logo be used (print, website, etc.)?

Sorry i managed to type that above in the wrong section so i will place it here as well, Silver Metallic new transit van sign written on the back and both side panels, tshirts(in black and white), trousers (possibly back pocket? Black), Bib and Brace(these are white in colour mostly), Jackets ( Black), caps/hats. Also the web page as well.

    13) Do you have other info or links you want to share?

Nothing i can think of at this time.

    14) Finally we need is there a style font you prefer, please let us know.

Ok for fonts im after something professional looking thats easy to read yet modern. The font on the attached picture is just any old font and wrongly placed as well by my brother so dont pay any attention to those.

Many thanks folks and i know ive probably asked for alot so i am grateful for anything you do for me idea wise, website wise etc.

I think i must mention also that i really havent a clue how to use any programmes and such and am a complete newbie with PCs so be gentle hehe.

Many thanks for reading and any questions or more info you would like dont hesitate to ask me.

I hope i have filled this in correctly.

    Cheers, Petar

Some more info, here is the crappy cheesy invoice, quotation and RAMS i have been using. Again was made by my brother with the simplest of tools.

The RAMS one is the newest design my brother did. As you can see everything really needs some help with from the layout to logo fonts etc.

    Attachments below.

    Thanks once again.

Hey Covertpea, it is classy yes. Thank you for taking the time out to try something for me.

I dont want to come across as ungrateful or negative but i want to get this right as this will hopefully be a permanent design for my company which is expanding pretty quickly.

Its abit too classy for what im trying to portray. To me that is saying a wedding or card shop or a specialised painting art work shop? Its abit too frilly, the font is abit orldy worldy for my liking. Let me try and explain, i want the logo to be crisp, dynamic, young, eco, (god its so hard to try and explain to other people what your thoughts are hehe) with some subtle colours but not extra bright colours. For some reason those words make me think of straight lines, crisp funky fonts lol Also my company name is actually "The London Decorating Company ltd" and would prefer the whole company name used, dont really want to shorten it with "TDC" or "LTDC" etc.

Some designs i took from the web as to the rough direction i want to go.

Peppermint pastel greens? Blues ? Brushed metallic silver, dark granite backgrounds possibly?

Once again many thanks and i take my hat off to you guys, it cant be easy trying to come up with something from someone elses head lol

Cheers for any more input and ideas.

Those are all nice examples for SHORT names, but it does show the simpleness, clean lines.
I played with this before your last post.

Hi Ishkey, many thanks for the input you gave me an idea to revert what i said about using a shortened version of the company name aswell as the full name. like the design below but LDC with maybe the london going down the L ?

    Im really liking this -

Navig8 ~ a graphic design group based in London: Portfolio - Just About Marketing logo design

With the London down one letter, maybe a ltd at the end then underneath in simple font like you did "The London Decorating Company ltd" ?

What do you think about that design with maybe a different font, and or pastel eco peppermint greens going through? although i do really like the colours in the link.

    Thanks guys

Btw is there anywhere to donate to this forum ? or is this frowned upon here ?

    Cheers

    Nice Mr Ish.....
Just MPO, but I would have put the word 'THE' sitting on top of the large L

Peter, just looked back and it's only my opinion but when you see LDC (when in the big smoke) I tend to think of London District Council lol

LOL that made me giggle, you have a point, thats why i was at the start saying i would just like the whole company name nothing shortened but then it was mentioned its not so easy to do a logo with such long words. incorporating the 2 is ideal as the designs you guys have showed me.

I really dont like the greens thats my fault lol

so go nuts with whatever you like and have the time for.

@Ishkey lol ive put too many things in your head it seems, your right about the colours. i think i should steer clear of the green lol

Is it possible to have more glossy colours like the one linked or does that come after we design the logo fonts etc?

The last designs i like and you did exactly as i asked "funky" but maybe i should scrap funky aswell lol god i suck at this hehe. When i see you do my ideas im seeing things that i like or dislike from MY ideas, so maybe im just really bad at this lol and my ideas should be scrapped.

hmmm is there any programme or site i can mess about on to help with ideas etc?

From tommorow i wont be online for a week probably as the new pc system i bought has failed the overclock 2nd time now and is going back to be redone. i may be able to make some comments if i can get use of a PC, just thought id let you know incase you dont hear from me for a week and you think im rude.

Ok thanks for answering me about donations.

    Cheers

Peter tell us exactly what or how your company Decorates.
I am familiar with the interior decorator style who changes everything in site and the commercial style who use mainly paint to alter the visuals of a building.
