Hi everyone :) I'm here from TechGeeks (http://techgeeks-online.com) to request a logo for my site. I've been reading some of the other threads and you guys are amazing at creating these logos for people. I hope you can help me.

    1) What is the exact name you would like in your logo?
TechGeeks (or techGeeks if you can make a cool lowercase t)

    2) What is your website address (ex: http://site.com ; Site Name)?
    http://techgeeks-online.com/forum

Please make it fit in well with the forum. I'll be changing the blog's theme to look nice with the forum.

    3) Description of your website or business:
It's a fun, community centered community. We want to have fun while being professional. I'm looking for a logo which is clean and will look great to educators and company executives/marketing managers (they send us review products). I want people to like the site because of the logo.

    4) Have you found any logos/designs on the web that you feel convey
the style you are looking for?
Not really. I don't want something geeky like this
    [IMG]

    5) Requested size of your logo:
I'd like a larger resolution logo because this could eventually go on shirts. I'd also like it to be resizable to something like our current logo http://techgeeks-online.com/forum/public/style_images/1_try2.png (280x90px) without looking bad. Most people will see it as 280x90.

    6) Do you have any images/photos that can be used for the logo? (must be copyright free)
    No. :)

    7) What logo styles do you like (text only, image only, text and image, etc.)?
I think text only or text and image would look nice. I don't want an image only. I want it to be mergable with the background (transparency preferred). If possible, I would also want some unique "image" part of it that could become something like a smaller logo (like the "t" in our current logo). I want something that could become a favicon. Maybe some cool design on some letter or some 3D Web 2.0 ball with a drop shadow or some curved box standing up with a "t" in it or something. I'm not creative but I love to see what other people can do. I also want a very web 2.0 feel in the logo so please use nice lighting.

    8) What colors do you want to see in your logo?
I think bright yellow, bright red, blue (maybe), orange, etc. would be nice. I want a bright feel.

    9) What colors do you NOT want to see in your logo?
No dark greens or jet blacks please.

    10) Describe the target audience for your logo
I like the idea of it being colorful. The target audience is everyone and I want something that would appeal to a very large audience. I don't want something too geeky.

    11) What are the top 3 things you would like to communicate through your logo?
We need to attract new forum members and we want to keep people coming back to the site. We want to communicate professionalism, cleanliness, and a nice and friendly community.

    12) Where will your logo be used (print, website, etc.)?
Mostly on the website, but it would be nice to be able to print it later on when we grow.

    13) Do you have other info or links you want to share?
I love blogging about people who do service for our site so I'll probably write a nice review and testimonial about the logo that I like. You'll be able to use that in your portfolio :)

    Thanks!

Sounds like an interesting challenge. I'm sure you'll get a few responses.

Being "Techie", perhaps you could reciprocate by helping out a few of the techie type questions found around our forum.

    Cheers
    CP

    Here's something simple...
(with or without the vert 'techgeeks' text)

Thought I should show the above with some style stuff.
I'm not a fan of bevels in logos but sometimes they work to an advantage.

Same logo, with bevels and things...

I really like the "g" on the second one. I just don't like that sharp gradient line on the "t" from light to orange. And the borders of the t and g don't blend in the second logo like in the first one.

Right now I'm really stuck. The two cons that I see that it might be too plain and that with the dimensions it is it wouldn't look good on the forum. It would be a square in one corner. I think it would be nice to have something more horizontal.

Great work CovertPea, very nice look! I think the 2nd one would look a little more smooth if you mate the t and g appear at the same level still (depth~). Just opinion though :p Regardless, I really like your design!

Both logos are great CovertPea. I really like that second one.

Luv the bevel logo CP, If it's not used can I pinch the idea? (as they say copying is the highest form of flattery :D )

Actually it would make your blog pop when people first view it. Simple is nice but black and white is boring. Possibly you can place the logo to the left and code in a banner rotator for your blogs that are on the front page. Could look something like this. Nice work CP.

But I want something that could be used on the blog and forum so it's consistent everywhere.

You wanted web 2 - you got a great logo for that style.
It's showing on your blog above and most forums header logos are small and to the left.
Now this is confusing. Can you explain in more detail as to what you want?
You showed an example of what you didn't want maybe you could show examples of what you like.

    Dave-
What you've suggested Techie give some extra info on is exactly what I planned on asking today.
    Thanks mate.

    Techie-
Reading your blog and other pages, I got the idea you were looking for a logo style that would also transfer well as a 'favicon'. Hence, the squareness of the design. As for using it as a page header, the idea was to have my TG design with the full "TechGeeks" written beside it.
As for the bevels and bits in the 2nd pic, that was just an example of 2 kinds of styles that could be added.

    Forest-
Sure can Forest, it's a freebie here so it doesn't matter whether it's used or not. Just the idea or the actual style settings? (not sure if I have the styles still separate on the psd though.)

Do you think it would be a good idea to use something like your t and g to spell out the TechGeeks, and then join and merge the letters (like in your example) for the favicon?

I'm not really concerned with the favicon. I just want a nice looking logo. The favicon can be made off of that later on.

These are some that I really like
    [IMG]
I just want that kind of feel.

No sorry. That looks too much like a "web 1.0" logo.

    What I don't want http://farm1.static.flickr.com/34/97303317_7b3b159d39.jpg

    What I do want. http://blog.patyuen.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/93136022_25afa7e458_o.jpg

Can you see how they're different?

And I know I'm not contributing much to the community :( but would it help if I offered some small prize to the person who makes the logo I want?

Below is how I envisioned it as a header.

as by the meaning of a small prize and as per sticky post..... if you want to pay then PM one of the designers and discuss it.
As to the designs already submitted, these guys/Ladies are already trying to help you out for free, so could I suggest in order to speed things along that you do a free hand drawing of what you have in mind (and upload it) and then we will turn into a graphic? otherwise going round in circles comes to mind

I just freehanded this and I like the idea so if we could make a logo from it that would be great.

The spacing and everything is off but I like the idea of a tilted box with "tg" and "techGeeks" spelled out to the right. I want a smooth font like Comfortaa (which is what the current "t" on the forum is made from), but I'd like it to be a bit thicker (maybe Verdana would be a good choice).

I'd like the "tech" to be a lime green. I have an example here
    [IMG]
I really like that shade of green. I'd like the "Geeks" to be an orange, but maybe something more exciting than CovertPea's. I couldn't find some example that I liked as much as I like the shade of green above, but I like this orange.

For the box, I think a green t and orange G would look good? I have no idea about the filling of the box or anything because I'm not that creative.
