    Hi guys,

I understand it will be difficult to ask for a template, but perhaps some of you would like to review my website and give some tips and tricks? :)

    My website is: discussourfuture.org

It's a website aimed to discuss our planets issues, and to come up with solutions. Therefore I have also added a forum, where people can discuss topics and solutions.

    Cheers,

    Bram

    Hey Bram,

I liked it. I knew what the website was about straight away. I could navigate easily to where I wanted to go.

I guess the next step is to build up a following at get people chatting on the forums. Good luck with it!

    Your source code

    <title>Home</title>
I thought the title was "Discuss Our Future"
You may want to change that
and add a description (the description would help for your sites
    SEO)
The pictures at the top (what is the significance) you may want
to add a title on or below the pictures
    -
    hope this helps

Thanks navyfalcon. May I ask you how I add a description? Do I do that between <title> </title> ?

The pictures are there for layout purposes and to show how nice and at the same time, how bad our planet looks.

    Thanks again,

    Bram

    Bram,

Really liked your site! :) Your website has the approach mine needs. Enough straight forward content to interest the reader on the home page and keep them. The forum is especially nice, as I tend to be put off by overwhelming amount of skins. Though knowing they will increase over time, your forum has a great clean look with fantastic content. Will be joining if aceptable by you. You are off to a great start. Look forward to following your blog! :)

I don't know if you are using an "HTML Editor" or notepad.
If you use "AlleyCode" (free HTML Editor) they have a "head" section editor
and you can add, remove, and modify the source code from it
Free HTML editor wysiwyg - Alleycode HTML, Text, PHP editor , Free website testing tools
This is the editor I use most. If you have problems using it, PM me and I will help.
Normally, you just go to the top of the source code and add, modify or remove the
    <title>name of site</title>
    <meta name="description" content="description of site " />

Go to the toolbar (top of site) click on "view" then click on
"page source" and that should display the source code of the
page you have active on the desktop (any active page)
If you put the page in an HTML Editor, this part can be edited.
Also the editor can change any part of the HTML code. Some have
the capability of editing the CSS code also (AlleyCode has this
ability - and it is free)
    -
    hope this helps

Thanks Navy Falcon. I use Kompozer, and I added the <meta name="description" content="description of site " /> below my <title>name of site</title> in the head section and replaced the second "description" with descriptions of the website:

    <title>Discuss our future</title>

<meta name="description" content="discussing, informing, and thinking about a structural sustainable planet, environment, racism, sustainability, pollution " />

Is that what I was supposed to do?

    Does that make sense?

    Best regards,

    Bram

Yes, that is what you are to do
Next, you need to use a keyword suggestion tool to carefully select the most appropriate (and popular) keywords for your site
I use wordtracker (the free edition) the most along with other keyword tools.
Free keyword suggestion tool for SEO, Adwords & blogging
This should help you select the keywords that will increase traffic
Remember to use the most popular keywords within the first 100 words of your site.
    -
Google displays 66 characters (including spaces) of your title. Select the best keywords to be included in your title (a short description)
Google displays 150 characters (including spaces) of your description below your title. Select good keywords for your description. Be sure and use your keywords in the body of the site
    hope this helps

Thanks TheWomensGame. Missed your comment the first time :) Yes, I have to get people chatting on the forum. That's the most difficult part, and at the same time the most important part :) But it will come!

Hi Navyfalcon. Thanks for the help so far. I have an additional question though, ever since I updated my site, my google analytics don't work properly anymore: The total amount of visitors for instance is decreasing significantly by the day. Any experience with that?

    Cheers,

    Bram

    Mornin'

The site is very simplistic and to the point, I like that. the navigation is good, from page to page and from point to point. I only have 2 suggestions for improvement.

Firstly, I would suggest working on your frontpage at discussourfuture.org, while the content pages are a nice style of simplicity, that very first page could do with something more. It says 'Please choose your language below:', then 'English' and 'Nederlands'. I don't think they speak Nederlands in the Netherlands. I would sugest changing that to Dutch or Frisian, which ever the web pages have been written in. Or alternatively changing it to 'Select your country:' and then changing 'English' to 'Great Britain'. The former probably being the easiest. Aswell as that quite minor thing, I'd say jsut some general 'sprucing'. It's kinda boringly bare, rather than simplisticly interesting. I'm not quite sure what, but I'll leave you to think about that :p

I know I packed two into that last one but here is the second main point. I would suggest working on your forum theme a little bit and get it to look more like your main content pages, fixed, white sides, orangey stuff.

Other than that, it's good and I wish you well with the site. Off to get dinner! Goodluck!

Very much appreciated recidivist. A few minor comments back: I decided to put the appropriate name for the language in that same language. "Nederlands" is the Dutch name for the Dutch language (trust me, I am dutch :)). But I fully agree that the homepage is a bit boring. I played with the idea to put a hyperlinked flag of each country on there, but regarding content that goes against the principles of Discussourfuture, and regarding webdesign, I think 200+ flags would become too much. So, fully understand and agree that the homepage needs improvements, but still looking. Thanks for that.

Forum is difficult because I have to do it from the current format, otherwise I delete all members and posts, so I have to do quite some HTML editing. I am planning on it, but I thought for now, with the color orange still pretty dominant, it would be sufficient. But I will put some additional effort in that.

    Enjoy your meal!

    Cheers

    Bram

Yes, I think we all have.
First, use several analytics (I use Google Analytics, GoStats and StatCounter)
    http://gostats.com/
    http://www.statcounter.com/
Second, submit your site to several search engines
    http://www.freewebsubmission.com/
Third, check your keywords in a keyword tool and be sure and use them in the body of the page
    http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/
Fourth, have the site reviewed in several "website review forums" that allow signatures (your website address)
    http://www.code4gold.com/forums/Web...of-Dofollow-Forums-that-Allow-Signatures.html
    -
Then you should see increased traffic and better position of your site.
    -
    hope this helps
