Websites please give me your ideas

Hey guys I am trying to make my home page say wow I want to stay and look around. Right now it has no real focus. I am playing with some designs. Could you let me know what you think of this one. Keep in mind it is just a basic start and some links dont work because the page is in the wrong directory.

Maybe you can try to add images beside the links - example pet resources etc to give it that look ...You know What I Mean!

The icons in the menus and the 2 header images

 

I like the old one better. If it was tided up a bit would look a lot better.

 

I am using some graphics made by Covert pea.
and cleaning it up I have to get more focus some how. I also plan to use the icons.

I will most lickly loose the rss feed for free stuff on the main page so that I can put some text in each link area to tell what each section is about. I have already darkened the background.

Covert pea I dont understand this (white ps 'shapes' with a 2px outer stroke)
I am a graphics dummy. But I just cut the icons out and made them the way I need them.

I think it addressed most of the issues brought up and looks better what do you all think?

 

I did a mix of ideas .The header you made the icons I made and found.
a darker background color. and I think a cool navigation system.

I am using something called imagemagil a php module to resize the pictures. I dint think it likes animated gifs.

And Dave what browser are you using. I have tried fire,opera,ie chrome and the boxes open and close perfect in all of them.

 

I like the jobsearch, but you may want to change the meta tags a little to increase traffic

Don't know which keywords will help (haven't checked in "wordtracker")
