1and1 provides free private domain registration. Other websites charge for this service which keeps your registration information private (name, home address, phone number, email, etc...) Not registering privately makes your information public, and people can easily search for your website url on whois.net and find out who you are.

1and1's domains are really cheap too and was the cheapest I could find at $6.99/year (includes .com/.net/.us/.org/.biz/.names).

You also get a free 2000MB mailbox with email address. There is the option of using their webhosting and easy sitebuilder.

Visit their website by clicking 1and1.com/?k_id=19098471

For the second time, I'm not recommending them as a host. I have no idea how they are as a host because I don't use them as a host. I just bought a domain from them. And I use that domain with another webhost.

What I know? It's only $6.99 for a domain

AND you get free private domain registration for that domain.

OTHER sites charge for private domain registration.

Personally, I don't like Yahoo either.
I prefer business that focus on one thing.
Not trying to incorporate EVERYTHING all into one.

But, that's just me.

I think there is no private domain registration per se. The price is always included in promotional offer. There are some checp registrar like yohost.org with offshore private domain registry.

I was using 1 and 1 for domain registration, but I got frustrated because I could only register domains for 1 year at a time, and I had no control over when they renew. When I started with them, they were $5.99 a domain, and now they're 8.99 (including free private domain registration). I thought I and others like me needed something better, so I created a Domain Registration site that also includes free private domain registration at DomainShortcuts.com.

a few free private domain registrars here

I always go to bestdomainregistrar.org/ site to check for the best prices for registrars with free privacy protection. Netfirms, Namecheap and 1and1.co.uk the ones offering free privacy.
