I would really appreciate feedback on my website design / layout. I get a lot of visitors, but most don't stay past 5 seconds. I assume it's my presentation...

    any feedback is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks !

I believe there should be a clear explanation what your site is about. I’ve read the text in the homepage because you invited anyone to review your site and I was interested in it. Other people prefer to get a quick understanding of a new site. So try to be more laconic. At least at your homepage.

Part of you issue may be marketing and not your website - more on that in a moment.

    About you site:

I agree with emilypal - you only have 5-20 seconds to capture interest in visitors. There's nothing on your home page that quickly tells people why you and why here.

Also, your header/banner didn't load when I went to your site. You need to check into that. If you don't have one, we make 'em - just let me know if you need one.

Some people might be turned off too by the green text. Black on white is usually preferred. You also have a couple things that need to load on your home page (eBay and ustream). The first time I went to your site it took way to long to load your page. To check if this is a problem, clear your web browser's cache and then try reloading your page. If it takes too long to load, people will click away.

As for people only staying 5 seconds on your site, that could be a few issues. The best thing you can do is test different landing pages. Save the currently layout and then create a new one. Put that video elsewhere and maybe create a few headings like I have on my blog's landing page to let people know why they should consider reading on and buying from you.

Find a style that works and stick with it. In marketing, it's what you have to do (test different approaches until you find one that works).

    Good luck,

I thinks this would be a cool flash site that delt cards as the navigation menu.

I agree.. one Idea I would love to do, also, is have a flash that made it look like you were walking into a 'gypsy store' . Have things bubbling on the table and items on a book shelf, and have each 'thing' be a link.. have a gypsy sitting at the table. I thought it would be cute. But I don't have the money to hire someone to do all that! lol..

Sorry about the late review but here it goes..
I think you have too much text, and poor graphics, wich becomes "booring" when we open it... i also agree that in your area of business a flash website would be much more appealing and your idea is good indead...
I work with flash regularly, i´m not a pro, but i think i can make you a flash menu, within the project you refered and then you complete the links...
if you´re interessed PM me ;)

thanks :) I really appreciate your feedback. Flash, unfortunately, is out of my budget. I'm a single mom that struggles financially so.. I dunno, I would rather feed the children than justify spending a week's earnings on a flash template. I do believe it would help in the long run.. but *sigh* what can you do? I definately appreciate all the feedback and will work on fixing all the things mentioned.. thanks!

i didn´t requested any payment to help you out...
This website is called "free website templates", being "free" the keyword here...
Has i said above, i can work on a "main page", in flash, acording with your idea, and then the sub pages could be built by you (in simple html format..)

if you want my help please feel free to PM me, or add telmodels@hotmail.com on your msn, or e-mail me to that same adress...

I would agree . If i came across the site on my own I would not have read far enough down to see the recipes and that would be a shame I like recipes .

The colors are great in my book liked them.

Your description meta tag is kind of to much to the point it should entice a viewer to want to learn more instead of telling the whole story.

Maybe ad a few pages with some of the stuff like the recipes and link to them so their not on the same page.

what blogging platform is it? wp? there are many free wp themes on the net, download a bunch of them, install them, and you can rotate through them until you find one that is more suitable, also stay away from flash if possible, and a flash nav bar is not necessary. why stay away from flash? loading times and seo, and flash is more suited for huge media presentations
