Nope The Tellcos lock Your phone, the one you paid for with all those options installed. Not Nice of them. They force you to buy everything from them -WRONG.
Say you want to travel from down under to here in the states, Downunder Telco charges you $1.60 a minute international rate, now if your phone was unlocked like it should be you could buy a sim card precharged for say 1000 minutes @ 25 cents a min from UpHere Telco, put it into your phone and talk. I am on Verizon with a Omnia Smartphone, I downloaded Google Maps to use with my GPS (GPS Use of orbiting satellites is free to the world by the way) and guess what! Good ol Verizon has locked my GPS so I can not use any other GPS software but theirs, they only want $9.95 a month just to pad their bottom line. How nice of them. Just a few examples. So when buying a phone look for one that is unlocked or unlock your present phone.
