I just wanted to know something about this subject. I have an android phone and ive seen on these forums some folk mentioning making apps. There seems like a very big opportunity to make alot of money from app making at the moment.

I mean some of the apps are so crap like i saw one the other day called Nipple, it was basically a picture of a nipple that you can tweak and move i think (no i didnt buy it lol) it was £1.19 i think and had 500 downloads, another was a vibrator that had 500,000 downloads.

Seems like people that know how to make these apps are putting out any old crap, putting a small fee on that people dont mind losing and bingo. 500,000 downloads at 99p each lets say......

Dont know how fast you could churn out these apps if you knew what you were doing and does all that revenue end up in the app creators account?

Either way really wish i was able to do such things seems like some opportunities are about for certain people?

OR i could be completely wrong hehe

    thanks

You see creating apps such as the 'Nipple' app and then putting it on for £1.19 is just plain stupid and those that bought it were even more stupid lol and also for Apple to accept that app in their app store for that price just makes it worse as you can get many great apps that are even free or for 59p. I've got an app that I can remotely control my computer and that was free!

There can be BIG money in having a successful app, just depends on your idea and even though it can be sold at pennies there still is a huge market out there but once you make it and put it up on the app store then you get the reward of watching the money come in. Imagine 500,000 people buying an app for 99p and work that out and you'll see how much money can be made lol (and that's just for one app imagine if the developer created many) but for 99p who's going to complain.

The time it takes to create an app depends on your knowledge and also on the app itself whether it is a simple one or not. If it's a simple app then it could possibly take around a month or even 2 weeks whereas a more sophisticated app could take a couple of months. Apple does take some commission but most of the cash would be coming to you, it's still enough to make a nice amount of money.

I don't believe in that at all, whatever your age or knowledge you can always learn something if you have that interest for it.

Like they say nothing is impossible...;)

iPhone's are pointless, although a good majority of the people that own them are incredibly stupid and therefor you can make good money from very stupid apps which take 1 or 2 weeks create. I have created a few iPhone apps that took roughly 2 weeks to create each, I havn't released any apps on the store though, I've just been practising my Objective C. Some of the most popular apps are the most simple, and they are very easy to make. This 'nipple' app, I havn't seen it, but from the sound of it I can't imagine it took longer than a week to make. You could knock that out in a day or two if you really wanted too. When I get proficient at objective C, I might release some stupid apps for stupid people with iPhones.

Also, Apple's seemingly only requirement to get your app listed on the Apple store is that it has a nice icon. No joke -> Write the crappest app and give it a decent icon, they'll accept. Write the best app ever but give it a crappy icon, they'll deny it. That's Apple for you, they charge £300 more for their smartphone's purely because it's quite shiney but practically the same in every other way.

iPhones are pointless to you but for me it's a whole different thing. I love it lol Guess everyone has their views on it but I see it as a good opportunity to make your money too.

Yep i agree with both your comments, as i see it and would love to be able to do it there is money to be made.

I own an android phone i dont really like apple and with the android as your not tied to one company its being flooded by lots of apps.

I have loads of free apps that are awesome but on the other hand i have bought apps that i didn't like ranging from free to 3.99 (there are some more expensive ones) that i bought and as android only gives you a 15 minute refund policy i can imagine alot of people don't bother with refunds or really don't care as the sums of money involved are not really huge to the individual, but it all adds up.

I would say Android is a much easier (not sure if its bigger yet but its growing fast) than iphone to break into?

WoW 2-3 weeks, imagine pumping out ridiculous apps for a year every month or so even if 1 or 2 have many downloads, the possibility to become rich overnight is huge.

Wish i listened in school lol

Is the iphone and android app writing/coding different from eachother or?

From what I know Android is coded using Java and iPhone uses Objective C. I've never really used any other besides the iPhone but I will hopefully be making Android Apps soon too but you can still learn it nothing stopping you.

Well that's true and its something I would really love to learn also some sort of graphic/web design aswell but I'm pretty sure you would need some kind of PC background specially for the programming part, not something you can learn overnight and with ease even for a hobby. The last bit of programming I did I was around 12 years old on a BBC computer lol

Creating apps can make you a lot of money. I saw on the news a 14 yr old that made almost about a million by creating an app game that cost a dollar to download; so its all in if people would be interested in buying your app. then you can make a lot of money from it.

Wasn't that the kid who made the "metal detector" app?
