Hi there, I am the general secretary for Ladybridge Football Club in Bolton, Lancashire. 2009 marks the clubs 20th Anniversary and as part of our celebrations we are looking to update our current club badge. The badge is displayed on the website and embroidered on all kit and training wear. We are a charter standard community club and registered charity, and currently provide grass roots football for 600+ children and young people between the ages of 4yrs-open age. The current club badge was designed some 10 years ago by a team member as part of a club competition.
    1) What is your website address (ex: http://site.com ; Site Name)?
    www.ladybridgefc.co.uk
    2) Description of your website:

As explained above we are a local grass roots football club who are celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2009
    3) List 3 logo designs you really like & why:

We would like to stick with the colour scheme and general design of the current badge, but add 'formed 1989' to the writing around the circle. Also a few different ideas for the centre of the inner circle. Liked the abstract footballer kicking the ball in one of the other posts. Two or three different ideas would be nice. Will let you use your imagination, nothing too intricate though, like to keep the design bold and simple.
    4) Requested size of your logo:

Obviously circular, approx 6 or 7cm in diameter for embroidery. Hopefully we will be able to incorporate into letter heads and watr marks for club stationary also.
    5) Do you have any images/photos that can be used for the logo ( only copyright free ones )?

The space within the writing circles is transparent. The inner circle is a solid block of colour. On our red away kits the colours are reversed (circles and writing in yellow, inner design in red)

    6) Any colors you prefer?

Club colours are yellow and royal blue, as per the website

    Regards,

    Neil Austen. Club General Secretary.

    Thats the one!!!

Not saying it needs to be that one, giving you complete creative control for the centre design. Would appreciate a tidied reproduction of our current badge centre with as many alternatives as possible. Will it be easy for me to reverse the colours for home/away kits once it's done?

Here's a re-do showing what it looks like with the yellow background and without. I can easily swap round the red and blue.

Here's just the blue on the yellow bg and without. Having the one colour to embroider would be cheaper.

CP, Thanks for the quick response. It already looks so much sharper and more professional than the poor PDF we had been working off previously. I have forwarded your ideas on to the committee for discussion and will hopefully be able to come back with some feedback very soon. Thanks again and I hope you enjoyed your birthday in the sun, it's snowing here!!!

CP, had some feedback from the club now and everyone that has seen your efforts are really happy with the first draft. Could we request a few modifications to see if they inprove the look?
The chairman is keen to introduce a club motto. We have decided on
" Labor Omnia Vincit" which translates to "Hard Work Conquers All"
We are keen to retain the circular design, the football emblem in the centre (without the football background), the est 1989 and the above motto.
We think the single colour badge looks much more impactive, perhaps use the plain blue design on the yellow home shirt and a plain yellow design on the red away shirt and blue training shirt.

Feel free to alter the layout as you see fit, once again thanks for all your hard work.

    Neil.

PS, could the latin motto be in a different font? Calligraphy kind of style?

    Regards,

    Neil.

What do you think of your last version? This is far harder than I thought!!!
I so want the badge to look right but at the same time don't want to be messing you about.
I have tried to play about with the design using my basic knowledge on Adobe to try and get everything to fit in. I really need you expert opinion on what will look best.
We definately want to keep the circular design but I think we can lose the inner circle.
We definately want the EST. 1989 but it can be moved around to suit. The chairman definately wants the motto but I think it looks too squashed in at present.
    What do you think?
If I was to be really fussy the type for EST. 1989 could be a bit bolder (so it stands out when embroidered) and the font for the motto could be changed to something with a bit more flow.
Could you please, please take another look at the badge and layout to come up with a solution? I have tried to attached my primitive effort from Adobe to show my layout ideas, but can't get it to paste? I have basically written the Ladybridge Football Club around the top half and a bit of the circle from left to right by compressing the writing a little(instead of the current above and below). I have also moved the Est. 1989 into the circle with the footballer and the motto out of the circle, down to where it currently has 'Football Club'. I have tried to add a small circle centrally located before the L and after the B to show the start and finish of that text. And finally stretched the footballer slightly to fill the circle better and wanted to increased the size of his football by about 25%
Could you please complete in yellow and blue as above but leave the background transparent?
Hope you are ok with all that!?!?

    Neil.

What about abbreviating the text to read - "Ladybridge FC" so it will fit neatly on the top half of the circle with the latin in the lower half?

Thanks CP, I had thought of that as an option. Lets have a look at it.
I am hoping that if you send with the transparent background I will be able to move things around a bit to get the final draft so I can stop taking up all your time!!
Problem is I've only got Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 and very little experience with using it so don't know if I'm up to the job. God loves a trier though so I will persevere. :D

    Hi Neil,
I've made a few of the changes and am attaching the layered .psd file for you to see what you can come up with.

Let me know how it goes!

    Final Draft

Hi CP, It has been a real learning experience getting to grips with photoshop but starting to get the hang of it a bit now. Thanks for giving me the motivation to get to know the software. Its been on my computer forever and not used it once! Hopefully now I will be able to try a few more projects with my new found knowledge.
    Anyway, not changed much,
    1) I have found a font I like for the motto (Edwardian script ITC)
    2) I have taken out the date lines
    3) I have slightly centred the Est. and 1989 so they are not touching the circle
I wanted to balance the colour so it is all in the same blue but couldn't figure out how to do it. Likewise I was going to see how it all looked in yellow.
Could you please send me the high def final drafts as per my ammendments, one in yellow and one blue (one colour badge) with no background?
Will this then be of a high enough resolution to use on stationary as well as embroidery? I was thinking of using the badge as a watermark on the website and printed stationary.
Once again we are eternally grateful for all your help. the badge will be presented at the AGM next month and hopefully go into production from the start of 2009/10 season.
    Regards,
    Neil. :D

you had resized the canvas size and created new text to suit but brought in and up-sized graphics from the smaller image.
I've made all the graphic/text layers consistent now (plus the blues all match)
Below is a zip of both colours in psd format plus transparent pngs.
    Cheers

CP, Not really sure what you said on your last post but it sounded good. And the finished article certainly looks good. Thanks a lot for all your help, and hopefully we will get the badge passed at the AGM and be proudly wearing your design for many years to come.
    Regards,
Neil, and everyone connected with Ladybridge Football Club.
