I obtained a bad virus that I could not prevent with my firewall. I have win 7 but no install disk. I have win xp install disk. I used the win xp install disk to go to the repair console. Then removed the disk. Then the console went to restore to an earlier time. Upon completion, the virus was gone and the win 7 booted up properly.
    hope this helps somebody

A good tool for malware/virus removal is Malwarebytes.

Make sure that you run the scan 2 or 3 times to ensure that all instances have been removed. This tool is free.
