Not seeing any layers in gimp for linux. The PSD file do come layered, right? In other words all I should have to do to change the image text is open the PSD and edit the text layer? Is it gimp or do the PSD files not contain layers?

PSD do come in layers. But Gimp my not be able to read it. You can try to re-download the file and try again, if Gimp still doesn't read, then it won't. Maybe the file you want to change is been saved as agif or a jpg, if so then edit that file.
