Those are amazing. Try using brushes for the drums or you planning to create them yourself?

    Thanks guys.
Yea I have been trying to create the drums myself, just can't seem to get a realistic look to them.
Recidivist you must have been saving your pennies to buy one.
I used the Jeff Beck model shown on the right, which one do you have?

You guys really are great at making these cool graphics. Nothing on my capabilities. I would need to take an online class. I mean i watch youtube videos about graphic design and i know and use some technique, but you have to be able to think in the way of the object if i may say. Lol call me crazy (Because i am!) but i think i understand.

I have the Eric Clapton Stratocaster, but I also have the Elvis Costello Jazzmaster and James Burton Telecaster (I think that's what they are, I don't really know much about guitars). I don't actually play guitar, my grandfather gave them to me before he died. Probably worth quite a bit, but I don't feel like selling them, maybe I'll learn to play the guitar one day :p

I know that those must have taken a lot of time to they look so detailed with the drop shadow too it's amazing..

& unhallowedangel it's all practice. Don't pay for those classes or anything you can learn yourself. You know that no matter what button you click on photoshop and illustrator it's not going to break down your computer so what ever you think that sounds cool just click on it lol see what it does.

But just keep playing around with the programs and you'll get there but recent work you have done is amazing so it won't even take you long as you'll be used to some of the techniques already.

You make them in sections - with the small parts you draw at a normal large view - then group them together - reduce the size to fit - assemble the parts - group all the parts as a whole, one graphic.
Some parts can be recycled - colors are linked which makes it easy for a color change - layers are labeled.
A little planning of the groups and a little trial and error.
If you look close several of the parts are the same, but placement, color, shading, angle even a size change creates an illusion even when all the details are not there. Your eyes see a object and your mind tells you it's a guitar.

Viewed some tutorials and tried my hand at them, some came out, so looked like #$%^.
Watched some videos that interested me at the time and somehow it comes together.

GG is right just play around - if you got something you worked hard on and want to try out something new on it - make a copy and play with it, so when it screws up, well at least for me it always will - you still can fall back on the original.

Sell those guitars and I promise your Grandfather will Haunt you.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

    Hehe, probably :p

So, how are the drums coming along? I tried making some, just to see how it came out, and they were utterly terrible.

So let's see utterly terrible, can't be that bad, heck you're trying, that's what counts.

Here is where I am at, still needs the turn-buckles which hold the heads on, more shading/blending and I've got to figure out how to make a chrome effect for the buckles and bands.

I had thought about making a complete set, but... that could take some time, so this could be a very long term project.

    Thanks Recidivist.

Been working on the turn buckle - got the basic shape now I need to add more highlights and blends. I think I just might be heading down the right path.
I made the base layer as a transparency with fractal clouds so it will pick up the drum skin color as if a reflection, that way I wouldn't have too worry to much about a chrome color. Now that I am looking at it, a bit sharper would work to.

    Finished the drum

genuinegraphics.co.uk was wondering what ever happen to the drum I was working on.
Truth be told, I was slacking off. Yep that's right just being a bum.

I should have looked into Alien Skin Software and used their Eye Candy 6, but I'm to cheap. So here is my version using shading in shades of gray, a little transparency and feathering tossed in for good measure. All isn't what it seems to be, as what looks like detail in this size, when enlarged looks kinda fuzzy.
It is a technique I learn from a guy who makes icons. He told me make your picture very large, then reduce it down to the size you actually want, study the graphic part you are making to see where it runs together and reduce that area down, remove stuff.
Look at the detail on the other parts that you can take out and still give the illusion of what you want.
It will make for a better graphic and help reduce the size down.

Over all not to bad if I say so myself, of course I can see the mistakes and areas where I could bump it up.
Would I take on something like this again - ummmm not for awhile.
Lots of hours went into it, but it was a good learning experience.

So any one else have a graphic they have been working on???
    Be nice to see others.
