Others Member or Subscription Manager needed

Hi! What a great website.

I'm currently arguing with my web developer over whether my request is complicated or not...

I want a simple app which records who and when ppl visit certain web pages and what files they downloaded. - Happy to to make users 'register' first or jump through whatever hoops to capture the info I'm after.

Ok it probably needs a database of some kind but I was hoping for a simple logfile of some sort.

Surely we don't have to reinvent the wheel here??

Basically I want users to be able to download sets of .pdf drawings but I need to keep track of who downloaded what in case drawing revisions come up later.

Not overly complicated really. Setting up the user system will be harder than logging the download info, but still not hard. You could probably find a CMS that either already has these features, or find a plugin for one that does not.

I would imagine something like WordPress would be capable of doing it, if you decide to use a CMS (If you aren't already).

As a side note;
In my opinion, if you brand yourself a web developer, this is the kind of thing you should know how to do.

Check out some free "website analytics". Some give a very through report.
You will need to try several (you can try 3 or 4 at once) and use the best ones for your needs. Do not use hit counters but analytics, they give a report on traffic (visitors) actions
