i know how to edit psd files and slices, then save for web.... no biggie. but what do i do with the included .html file? when i save the slices it automatically creates an .html file with the table i need.

i usullay type my text in photoshop then save the slices as images. is there a way to edit text in dreamweaver? it's pain to chainge the .psd file and resave the slices each time i want to update my text! thanks.

If you use CSS/HTML you can easily accomplish this, all of my sites are done in this manner. If you have downloaded a template from here, you can see that when you just open the html file (before editing and saving over the file) you have full control over the text, even though the template was created using Photoshop.

i guess i still don't understand. here are the steps i'm taking:

    i download a template
get rid of css file as i don't use css
open the psd file and make changes to both graphics and text
slice in image ready and save with html file
open html file in dreamweaver and make changes, save file

so where does the html file included in the zip come into play? when i open the psd, the text is already there and once you slice it up you are saving the text as a graphic. i would like to be able to have the text seperate from the psd file (sliced images).

    Dear King,
I am sorry to tell you that you do it wrongly:)
when you change the template you have to check the existing slicing (the designer made) and if you like to keep same slicing is fine. when you want to save for web you have to hide the text layers or click right on the slice where is the text and change to no image so will become as table and type text in dreamweaver making this slice as background.
When you save the template save only images choose this option from save for web windows, and use the same html provided as index.
in case you change the slicing you have to make new HTML and follow the first way you did, and the html file provided is useless :)

    hope this will help
    Good Luck

Ah...well these templates are made to work with CSS. It is still possible, but you won't have the same control over the template. What you would do is to slice the image in a manner where the text is by itself, usually a square or rectangle around the text and save it as no image (as stated by stupidesigner). Then you would have to save it then open in dreamweaver. Delete the image of the text, now here's where you run into problems, if you don't slice the image properly your whole template is thrown off balance if you add too much text into the table spot....

Most of the templates downloaded from here doesn't include the original slices.

You're welcome. One of the easiest ways to learn CSS is to actually use a CSS sheet that is already formed, and play around with it a bit to see what each element does. Then you can do a Google search for 'css tutorial' and get a lot of really nice tutorials. Good luck! :)
